On the first day
of the freshman year, a sarcastic teacher asks,
"If there are any idiots in the room, will they please stand
up?"
After a long silence, one freshman rises to his feet.
"Now then, mister, why do you consider yourself an idiot?"
inquires the teacher.
"Well, actually I don't," says the student, "but I hate to
see you
standing up there all by yourself."
Application:
Sometimes we say or do things to make ourselves seem
more
important or smarter than everyone else around us. It feels
good to be "king of the hill". But, our
"elevating" may just show
everyone else how "low" we really are. We may soon
find
ourselves standing alone. (and eventually, someone will tell us
the obvious).
