A
young man seeking wisdom journeys to one of the most
remote places on Earth to receive wise counsel from an elderly
guru. He comes up to the edge of a
deep ravine. The guru is
sitting on the other side. All he has to do is cross a rickety old
wooden bridge. He
is just about to step on the first board of the
bridge when a strange old troll jumps out in front of him.
"Stop" says the troll. "Do you come
seeking wisdom?"
"Yes I do" responds the young man.
"In order to cross this bridge, you must correctly answer three
riddles" the troll explains. "These riddles are the key to the
ultimate truth we all seek. They reveal the inner-most essence
of our being, the search for truth and rightousness" he continued.
"The great and wise guru cannot be visited by a seeker who is
not worthy of the highest character."
"Will I be worthy?" asks the young man.
The troll responds, "Answer these riddles, and you may cross...
or, you can just slip me five bucks and cross anyway."
Application:
Be careful of where you seek wisdom. The world is
full of
"trolls and gurus" who claim to know the answers for your
life. The one that you can truly trust for wisdom and answers
is the Creator himself. He wrote a handbook for us to follow.
He also has a keeper at the bridge. But unlike the troll, this
keeper only has one riddle, which is: "Do you know who is
the bridge keeper standing before you?"
